A taste of Latin America: Barrio East

Making the ghetto chic again, one Barrio bar at a time.

The opening of Barrio East in Shoreditch earlier this week has cemented the comeback of ghetto flavour. The third in a chain of Latin hotspots around the capital by entrepreneur Ferdie Ahmed and his team, Barrio East provides a taste of exotic Latin culture Londoners need every now and then.

Inspired by Latin neighbourhoods the world over, Barrio East like its counterparts, Barrio North in Islington and Barrio Central in the heart of Soho has stylish yet quirky interiors. From the colourful décor to the recycled jam jar cocktail glasses, Barrio East has infused the ingenious ways barrios and ghettos from many parts of the world and recycled discarded items.

Upon entering, visitors are greeted by customised 1960s ‘Sprite’ 4-bearth caravan look with striking booth seating made from colourful wooden planks stacked floor to ceiling.

Barrio East offers two areas; Barrio Uptown which is a mixture of Cuban hotel lobby meets colonial courtyard meets Mexican speakeasy.  While Barrio Downtown offers a long orange top bar which divides those looking to sit back and relax in the Timber Yard from those looking to dance the night away in La Boca Barrio.

The La Boca Barrio or dance floor to you and me has brightly coloured facades made from reclaimed ship timber, an inspiration from the colourful Argentinian neighbourhoods in Buenos Aires.

Barrio east also offers delicious street food such as Chicken Taquitos, Empanadas & Chimichurri and Queso Fundido, as well as to – die- for cocktails.

Combine the DJs and live acts with an open dance floor, delicious street food, inventive cocktails and late night block rocking beats, and the ghetto feel is complete.

The atmosphere in Barrio East is warm, friendly and sizzling with Latin temperament.  It is definitely a must for anyone looking for a night of hot Latin fun in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

It is open seven days a week:

Monday to Friday 12pm – 2am

Saturday & Sunday 11am-2am
