Valentine’s Day travel: romantic hotels

It’s that time of the year again, when you have to show your loved one how much you love them by topping what you did last year.

Of course, love cannot be measured in gifts or monetary value but you can certainly try by whisking them away for a romantic getaway.

When people mention romantic getaway, we immediately think sunset on a secluded island abroad when in fact the UK & Ireland has plenty to offer. This Valentine’s why not try Barnsley House based in southern Cotswolds? It is discreet, has lovely gardens not to mention on-site pampering treatments.

Another option is the Lygon Arms in Broadway, a four star hotel situated in England’s ‘prettiest village’ - Broadway in the Cotswolds. Relax in the hotel's cosy bar or book a couple’s pampering session at the hotel’s Beauty Rooms and Spa which offers a wide range of spa and beauty treatments. The Lygon Arms is also brilliantly located for adventurous lovers who want to explore some of the most beautiful villages in the country.

For those looking to treat their loved one to a gastronomical feast, Gidleigh Park in Devon is the place to go. It was voted number one in the Sunday Times Top 100 Restaurants, and combines the finest cuisine, excellent wine, luxurious accommodation and a tranquil setting that cannot fail to create a wonderfully romantic ambience.

There is also the option of going further afield to Ballyvolane House in Ireland. The grounds are at their most beautiful around Valentine’s, with the daffodils, crocuses, bluebells and snowdrops pushing through.  Think Roll-top baths, huge comfortable beds, an honesty bar, stunning home-grown food and roaring log fires, what more do you need for a romantic getaway?

If you still have your heart set on going abroad this Valentine’s day despite all the options at home, neighbouring France has a lot of options.

Hotel Lancaster in Paris for instance is one of Paris’ best kept secrets. It is brilliantly located just off the Champs-Elysées. When you’ve had enough of taking in the excitement of the sites, shops and restaurants, Hotel Lancaster is your Paris haven of tranquillity. The Hotel is rich in history and represents the essence of the most refined Parisian culture; it also has a One Michelin Star, Chef Julian Roucheteau to provide a romantic gastronomic cuisine.

The city of lights also has Le Pavillon de la Reine, which is situated in one of the most stunning and historical parts of Paris. Le Pavillon de la Reine reflects the whole ethos of Paris, the city of love. It perpetuates an elegant atmosphere combined with discreet luxury.

If you like St Tropez then Hotel Le Yaca is perfect for a romantic getaway this Valentine’s day. Inside the hotel, you will enjoy relaxing moments of cosiness with a 70’s swimming pool and a beautiful flowery garden. It offers pure moments of tranquillity, perfect for lovers looking to spend some quality time together.

Across the Atlantic, Soho House New York is also a perfect location if the Big Apple is your kind of place. For starters, it is a perfect blend of Manhattan and London and offers extensive facilities such as a restaurant, club bar, drawing room, pantry bar, a 44-seater cinema and a heated rooftop pool. The third floor is also home to the Cowshed spa, with treatment rooms, private eucalyptus steam rooms and relaxation space. Soho House New York is a place to unwind and relax this Valentine’s Day.

If you love shopping then try Hotel Elysée, New York. It is a discreet, charming, welcoming, and brilliantly located boutique hotel right in the heart of Manhattan. Hotel Elysée is an oasis of luxury, elegance and calm in bustling Manhattan not to mention walking distance to the fabulous shops on 5th Avenue as well as many of NY’s restaurants and Central Park. It’s the perfect place to relax in the lap of luxury with a loved one and shop till you drop.
