10 questions you must ask on a first date

A first date can be a mix of emotions; nervousness and excitement all mixed together.

Not only do you want to keep the conversation flowing, but it’s also an important opportunity to find out about your date and to decide if it’s worth seeing them again...

We’ve compiled some of the most interesting questions to ask in order to keep you both talking:

1.     Are you single?

It may be one of the most obvious questions, but also one that you might naturally assume the answer to and not ask. However, it’s important to establish early on where your date stands in regards to what they are looking for. If you can’t agree, it is best to cut your losses and nip it in the bud. It also helps to ask to ensure that there’s no spouse waiting at home with dinner on the table…

2.     If you could anywhere in the world, where would you go?

It sounds like a simple question, but it can reveal a lot about your date. If they opt for a booze-filled holiday in Benidorm or Kavos then they are probably just looking for a good time. If they choose somewhere cultural or exotic then you can probably assume that they are open to new things and interested in the world around them.

3.     What are your parents like?

It may seem slightly odd to bring up their parents, but it can reveal a lot about their character. If they are rude or offensive about their parents then they obviously have no problem insulting those close to them – which would include you if you became an item. It also shows what sort of up-bringing they had and how happy their home life is.

4.     Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

This question will reveal if your date has any interesting goals or aspirations. You’ll learn whether they are motivated in life and how they plan to achieve them. Most importantly – whether they plan to have somebody by their side.

5.     What do you like most about yourself?

Allowing your date to talk about themselves will prove how confident they are. Are they humble and modest, or arrogant? Do they focus on a physical quality or a good feature of their personality?

6.     What things are on your bucket list?

You never know, they may have some interesting things they want to accomplish that you hadn’t thought about yourself! You might even share a lot of the same ambitions as you, which is something you can bond over and or even make one of the ideas your second date!

7.     Who is your biggest idol?

This is a great question to ask, as it will make your date open up. Everyone loves talking about their role model, and it can also lead to conversation about shared interests.

8.     Have you ever been in trouble with the police?

Try and make this sound jokey, otherwise it can come across like you are interrogating them. However, the answer is important as it could make or break your decision to have a second date!

9.     If you could invite three people to a dinner party, who would you invite?

A light-hearted question that will make you both think. It keeps the conversation flowing and allows you to share your common interests.

10. What do you hate most about the dating process?

It’s a funny question to make the both of you laugh… unless they go on a rant about all of their exes and the qualities in people they dislike. It’s also a handy way to find out what to avoid in order to impress them.

It's really hard to differentiate between boat shoes , but these managed to be one of the more interesting pairs I've come across. The most immediate thing that strikes me about these is their shape
