Review: Capital FM’s Summertime Ball 2016

Capital FM’s Summertime Ball with Vodafone was back last weekend, and it was better than ever!

This weekend, Capital FM held its annual summertime ball, bringing in all the hottest music acts from around the world to the iconic Wembley stage. Luckily, the weather wasn’t too bad so London was able to party in style!

Capital FM’s Summertime Ball with Vodafone is in its seventh consecutive year, and is normally held on the first or second weekend of June. Every year, Capital try to raise the bar, calling in all the biggest names who are tearing up the charts, and of course, this year didn’t disappoint.

Little Mix were the opening act, who were amazing, and really set the expectations for the rest of the night. Energetic and really engaged with the crowd, singing their biggest hits such as Black Magic, Move and their latest single, Hair. They were the perfect start to an amazing evening.

Other acts to grace the stage included The Vamps, Nick Jonas, Ariana Grande, Lukas Graham, Flo Rida, Will.i.am., Years & Years, Mike Posner, Nathan Sykes, Jillionaire, MNEK, WSTRN, Sigala and surprise act, Dizzee Rascal. Also, making her debut at a Summertime Ball concert was Louisa Johnson, who sang her new hit song, ‘Tears’ with Clean Bandit.

Craig David also performed at the Ball, whose comeback to music in the past year has been explosive. He helped us reminisce back to the early 2000’s as he sang his old hit like Seven Days and Rewind, as well as his newer songs. #throwback!

Arguably the biggest act of the evening and the most awaited performance was Zayn Malik, who was due to make his first UK debut as a solo artist, unfortunately pulled out last minute, due to anxiety.

Luckily, to end the show on the high, and to get the crowd pumping after the disappointing news about Zayn was Tinie Tempah, who sang all his hits. He brought on stage his collaborators, Jess Glynne, Katy B and Zara Larsson, who all dazzled the crowd with their amazing vocals and really got the crowd dancing and signing along after a fun and eventful day!
