Coming this summer - what are the movies we're highly anticipating

The new releases this summer revolve mainly around vampires and the apocalypse...

But we’ve managed to track down the most interesting and highly anticipated films of Summer 2013….

Epic - 22nd May

Based on the children’s book by William Joyce, Epic is an animated film starring Beyonce as the fairytale queen and Christoph Waltz as the villain. It tells the story of a young girl who is thrown into the midst of an on-going battle deep in the forest between good and evil. With the help of quirky new friends, she must save their world and end the battle. Directed by Ice Age’s Chris Wedge, the cast also features Amanda Seyfried, Colin Farrell and Johnny Knoxville.

After Earth - 7th June

Starring Will Smith and his son, Jaden, the film is set in an era where humans have abandoned Earth. After the father and son crash land on the planet, they struggle to survive after the father gets injured. Will Smith has revealed that there will be a “powerful conclusion”.

 Despicable Me 2 - 3rd July

Whether you are young or old, Despicable Me entertained everyone. The highly anticipated sequel features the loveable villain-turned-hero, Gru and his minions in their quest to save the world after being recruited by the Anti-Villain League. This film has a lot of expectation riding on it after the success of the first film, so lets hope it doesn’t disappoint.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones - 23rd August

Based on Cassandra Clare’s popular books, the story is based on a girl called Clary (Lily Collins), who can see the supernatural and discovers she is part of a secret supernatural gang, in which she is a ‘Shadowhunter’. Rumoured to be a (good) mix of Twilight and Harry Potter with love triangles, vampires, demons and werewolves.

 The World’s End - 23rd August

Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Edgar Wright team up again. After creating Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, this is the third film from the talented trio. Simon Pegg stars as a man having a midlife crisis and persuades his friends to go on a pub-crawl… that is interrupted by the apocalypse. Accounting for the popularity of their previous films, this is set to be just as comical. (Sorry we couldn't find a trailer to show you).
