Hottest ticket in Vegas: Matt Goss at Caesars Palace

Who needs shows with prancing ponies and all that jazz. Sometimes Vegas can be loud, proud and garish, that you just need something with a bit more style…

Matt Goss at the appropriately named The Gossy Room is an oasis of calm amongst the partying storm of sin city.

We assure you, the intimate show at Cleopatra’s Barge in Caesars Palace is well and truly worth seeing if you ever find yourself in Vegas, and need something to take your mind off all of the money you’ve lost on the tables, or quite frankly, you just want to see a bloody good show.

Those of you who are old enough will remember Matt from 80s boyband Bros who peaked with a career selling 17 million albums worldwide. But we’re a long way from British born Matt’s home town London and his yesteryear boyband days. You won’t be privy to a more grown-up and Vegas styled show, and if you’re in any doubt, the scantily clad dancers The Dirty Virgins will certainly help reassure you.

The music is very reminiscent of the Rat Pack style - think Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davies Jr - with a modern day twist. Gems such as Luck Be A Lady (Frank Sinatra) and Hotel California (Eagles) are thrown in amongst Matt’s very enjoyable own material.

You won’t get to hear a back catalogue of Bros songs although you might get just a little bit nostalgic with a couple of golden oldies adding to the mix, including a slowed down version of When Will I Be Famous, perfect for the Vegas lounge bar setting.

Matt has amazing talent, he hits every note with perfect precision and engages with the audience from the word go. You can see the crowd warming up nicely as the night progresses, perhaps the table service helps but you can’t deny it, he certainly has an abundance of charm and talent.

Matt likes to engage the audience with a  bit of banter and he gets the audience laughing on several occasions, and ladies, if you’re one of the lucky ones front of the stage you may well get serenaded - swoon.

This is not an act that has been thrown together overnight, that much is obvious, Matt has been performing in Las Vegas for over four years (and has been performing on stage for over 25 years) . So you could say this is the perfect time to go and see the show, we’ve no doubt it’s been fine tuned to its optimum best.

It’s around a 90 minute set but it seems to go by in a flash and the encore turns into a bit of a jamming session -  we defy you to not to  get on your feet  and dance.

Ultimately this is Matt’s show and he is clearly  a born entertainer, but credit where credit is due, the band and backing singers are pretty amazing too, other than their obvious talent they have a great synchronicity and you really feel they’ve been working together a lifetime.

Matt performs Friday and Saturday nights looking handsomely debonair in his tux (did we not mention earlier he’s rather attractive?!), and he’s not the only one that dresses up for the occasion.  Ladies, this is the perfect excuse to put on your glad rags and sip champagne, not that we really need any excuse of course…

Next time you're in town we totally recommend you catch the show, we'd put our money on this being the best show in Las Vegas and we're not a gambling bunch, unless it's a dead cert....
